Community Association
DeCourcy has a very well organized and well structured community association. Our executive board is comprised of both full time residents and non full time residents and has been instrumental in building our community infrastructure that we currently enjoy. We publish an annual e-newsletter, organize our annual meetings, oversee the volunteer fire department, liaise with municipal authorities (in this case the Islands Trust and the Regional District of Nanaimo), and communicate with its members regarding important news, information and tips.
Annual Events
DeCourcy Island hosts several annual events for island residents that include large community barbecues and other DICA events.
The community is otherwise very social and often has events for residents of the the island on New Years Eve (with polar bear swim), Halloween, Canada Day, Thanksgiving, and more. Another popular event, usually held in August is the Dinghy Regatta. This event hosts a wide vareity of small sailboats and as many as 75 guests from DeCourcy, Ruxton, and Thetis Island. The champion of the Dinghy Regatta receives the highly coveted “Golden Bailer” award.
